LG introduces V50 ThinQ 5G alongside Dual Screen accessory

We’ve already seen Samsung and Huawei debut foldable phones this week, but sadly LG did not follow suit, as the company says it wants to see how the market reacts.

Perhaps though they’re onto something with the latest accessory that debuted alongside its second flagship phone revealed at MWC 19 on Day Zero.

The smartphone in question is the V50 ThinQ 5G, and the accessory is called Dual Screen, but more about the latter in a moment.

As it says in the name, the V50 ThinQ 5G supports the latest broadband standard, or at least it will when the technology becomes more widespread. According to LG, the 5G capabilities of the V50 can deliver 20 times the download speed of its predecessor, although the company did not go into specifics as to the Gigabits the onboard modem can muster.

What we do know is that the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem featured is paired with a Snapdragon 855 processor. Added to this is 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a 6.4″ screen up front (3 120 X 1 440).

The V50 ThinQ is also sporting a similar five camera setup to that of the G8 ThinQ. Namely a trio of lenses on the rear – 16MP, and two 12MP ones. The front facing options include a 8MP and 5MP lens.

As for the Dual Screen it’s a value-added accessory that fits on the V50 ThinQ 5G like a flip cover would. Once flipped open the inside will reveal a 6.2″ FullHD+ screen, with a specific focus to use it in conjunction with the V50 for gaming in particular. This too is meant to leverage the advantages that 5G will give to mobile gaming.

No word from LG Mobile South Africa just yet on whether, or indeed if, the V50 ThinQ 5G will be coming to South Africa. With no 5G networks in sight at the moment, the chances are slim at this stage, with Samsung also opting not to release their 5G Galaxy S10 in South Africa either.
