SNL finally, officially, uploads the ‘More Cowbell’ sketch to YouTube

The most famous clips and snippets from popular shows usually find their way onto YouTube eventually, either legally or otherwise. Most of these clips stay up for fans to enjoy, but those pertaining to Saturday Night Live (SNL) are usually taken down very shortly.

It’s become known that SNL keeps a tight grip over what parts of its show are on that platform, but that seems to have lessened recently as the famous “More Cowbell” sketch, and a few others, have been uploaded.

The clip in question released just a few days ago and can be watched in the embed below. If you’ve never seen it, now is the best (and easiest) time to do so. As weird as it is to write, finally seeing More Cowbell on YouTube is a bit of landmark moment given the show’s past on the platform.

If we have to nitpick the quality isn’t the greatest. We’re not sure what the original resolution of the recording was back in 2000 when the sketch aired, but this upload is 4:3 and in 480 p. To go along with this, there are many artefacts on the screen which lead us to believe that this was ripped from some physical medium at some point.

Putting that aside, other classics were also released: The Chippendales Audition with the late pair of Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley, James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party and, maybe most importantly, D*** in a Box.

That digital short which many people came to Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island has been, as far as we know, absent from YouTube for years on end. If the upload date is to be believed, it may its way back in December of last year. Just note that, much like the title of the song, it is censored.

The official SNL YouTube channel were all of this is hosted was apparently created all the way back in 2013, but we’re not sure how long they’ve actively been uploading. D*** in a Box is the oldest upload, again from December 2018, but this doesn’t count any videos that may have been deleted.

If you need, well, more cowbell in your life, we highly suggest this remix which is actually a great beat and would have been a top club anthem if it came out in the early to mid 2000’s.
