Sad news for the month of February – there is a fuel price increase on the cards.

There are price increases across the board though LP Gas will decrease by 11 cents per kilogram.

As for the stuff that drives your car, 93 and 95 octane petrol will be more expensive by 7 cents a litre. This means a litre of 95 octane fuel will cost R14.08

Diesel will increase by 1 cent and 2 cents for 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur respectively.

These fuel price increases will come into effect as of 6th February.

Last month the AA predicted that the petrol price would increase in February citing slightly higher international oil prices.

The Department of Energy mirrored this in a statement announcing the price hikes.

“The current fuel price adjustments are due mainly to the international factors, namely the increase of crude oil prices,” the department stated.

For those who are curious, the price for a barrel of crude oil increased from $58 to $60 during the monthly review of the local fuel price.

Gains against the dollar in January also helped keep the increase down and this coupled with expected stability of international oil prices should help to keep the petrol price in check locally.

Here’s hoping things remain stable throughout 2019 and we don’t have wildly fluctuating petrol prices every month as we did in 2018.
