SpaceX’s Dragon capsule successfully docks at ISS

While we were spending the weekend recovering from MWC 19, SpaceX was making its mark in the history books once more.

At the weekend the space faring firm launched its Crew Dragon capsule into orbit successfully. The Crew Dragon capsule is important as it offers an alternative way for passengers aboard the International Space Station (ISS) to get to and from the satellite.

As it stands, the ISS is dependent on Russian Soyuz rockets for transport to and from the space station.

You can watch the launch of the Dragon capsule aboard a Falcon 9 rocket below.

On Sunday, SpaceX’s capsule – which had been in orbit since Saturday – began doing a number of tests to check the maneuverability of the Dragon around the ISS.

Then, after spending hours testing, Dragon finally docked with the ISS. What makes the docking of particular interest is that it was completely automated

You can check out the ISS crew boarding the Dragon once it was attached to the space station in the tweet below.

Dragon will now spend five days attached to the space station where the crew aboard the ISS will conduct a variety of tests to insure the vehicle is safe and withstands the tortures of space.

Upon returning to Earth, NASA will see how the vehicle fared on its flight and if all is well the Dragon may soon be ferrying astronauts and supplies to the ISS.
