FNB announces support for Samsung Pay, at last

Today is a good day for FNB and RMB Private Bank customers as the financial institutions announced support for Samsung Pay.

Samsung Pay is the contactless payment solution that – as the name suggests – features on Samsung smartphones. The functionality landed in South Africa late last year following a long wait but not all banks were supported at launch.

“Our partnership with FNB is a giant step towards the acceleration of digital payments adoption and excellence in South Africa. We believe that the combination of mobile technology, cost efficiency and the buying power of consumers will significantly propel the adoption of safer alternative payments. Samsung Pay gives users full control of their digital payment journey by ensuring all transactions are secure and authenticated by the user,” director of integrated mobility at Samsung South Africa, Justin Hume said in a statement.

Samsung Pay is supported on the following devices:

  • Galaxy S10+
  • Galaxy S10
  • Galaxy S10e
  • Galaxy Note 9
  • Galaxy Note 8
  • Galaxy S9/S9+
  • Galaxy S8/S8+
  • Galaxy S7/S7 edge
  • Galaxy A8 (2018)
  • Galaxy A7 (2017)
  • Galaxy A5 (2017)
  • Galaxy Watch
  • Gear S3 Watch
  • Gear Sport Watch

To get Samsung Pay on your smartphone you’ll need to download the app from the Google Play store, register for the service (or login if you already have) and scan your FNB Cheque or Credit card using the camera. We must point out that FNB Business Credit Cards are not supported by Samsung Pay at time of writing.
