You can now stream PC games to your Xbox One, technically speaking

These days you can stream games from your PC to your phone, from your PlayStation to your PC and your Xbox to your PC.

Playing PC games on a console, however, is something we haven’t seen yet but now you can do just that.

This is thanks to Microsoft’s updated Wireless Display app which was recently updated to enable streaming from a PC to Microsoft’s console.

The software is essentially just mirroring your PCs display which means that you could – if you wanted – use your console to present your quarterly revenue figures to the cat using PowerPoint, and an Xbox controller.

So yes, it’s not streaming in the same way Steam Link does streaming but it’s still a great way to get your PC games playable on your console.

A report from The Verge reveals that Microsoft is using Miracast to cast the PC’s display to the console. There are different latency modes for gaming and streaming. Something you won’t be able to do is stream protected content from the likes of Netflix.

The publication also revealed that you can’t plug a keyboard and mouse into the console just yet (support for those peripherals is coming) but for now if you’d rather kick back on the couch than sit at your desk to play games, you can absolutely do that.

We’d love to try this out but unfortunately our Xbox One is currently in for repairs. For those that do have an Xbox One and a PC, you can head here to download the Wireless Display app.
