Eskom continues with Stage 4 loadshedding on Human Rights Day

If you’re reading this story on 21st March 2019, it means it’s Human Rights Day here in South Africa. It also means that at some point during the day, your power will be cut by Eskom as the utility has chosen to maintain Stage 4 loadshedding on this public holiday.

Eskom confirmed that Stage 4 would be maintained in an official statement yesterday, noting that it would be implemented from 09:00 until 23:00.

This makes it the sixth day in a row where Eskom has implemented this stage, also stating once again that a shortage of capacity is the reason for this level of rotational loadshedding.

Whether they’ll continue for the remainder of the week is unclear for now, but given how the past few days have gone, it’s quite likely.

As such it should prove interesting to hear what the current investigation into the power utility’s current state of affairs yields, with minister for public enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, and Eskom chairperson, Jabu Mabuza, holding a briefing earlier this week stating that one was underway.

The investigation is set to conclude last next week, according to their 10 day-long timeframe, but what the next steps after that will be, is still very much unknown.

In spite of the loadshedding, we trust that you, friends and family can at least enjoy this Human Rights Day.
