Five of the week’s best new trailers

This week has been a rather disjointed one, what with Stage 4 loadshedding and Human Rights Day meaning that you probably weren’t in front of a screen as much as you normally are.

While that puts far less strain on your eyes, it also means that you may have missed a few trailers for some noteworthy films or TV series.

Yesterday for example saw a number of intriguing trailers land on YouTube, including the first one for season three of Strangers Things, along with a teaser for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and even more action in the second trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3.

If you’re too lazy to scrounge on YouTube for the new trailers, scroll down further to see five of the best that debuted this week.

Lucy in the Sky

If you’re guessing by the title that this is some sort of Beatles-inspired film, it’s not. Lucy in the Sky stars Natalie Portman as astronaut Lucy Cola, who has an out-of-body experience while returning from orbit back to Earth. The experience leaves forever changed, as she begins to lose her grip on reality.

Portman has a history playing such parts, having dealt with similar subject matter in the critically acclaimed Black Swan, which she won an Oscar for, and the less well received Annihilation.

Toy Story 4

The gang of toys from Andy’s room are back for their fourth installment, only this time they have a new kid – Bonnie.

The rest of the usual suspects are here though, including Woody and Buzz Lightyear, along with a new addition named Forkie, who was made using a spork and some goggly eyes.

Needless to say Woody finds himself lost again, and trying to get back home, but this time round Little Bo Peep makes a return too, leaving our favourite toy cowboy with a tough decision to make.

Stranger Things Season Three

Following two successful seasons, a third one was a no-brainer when it came to Netflix’s Stranger Things.

If the first trailer for the series is anything to go by, it looks like the relationships and bonds forged during the second season are only set to get stronger. As is the threat posed by the upside down, with the addition of new monsters to contend with.

This season is also set during Summer, which means the kids will be up to all kinds of mischief as well.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

We’d like to tell you all we can about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but sadly we have no information whatsoever to share.

All we know is that it has some star power with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt co-starring, and features Quentin Tarantino behind the camera on his ninth film to date. The cult-status director has long said that he only plans to direct 10 films, so it should prove interesting to see if this upcoming project will indeed be his penultimate one.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

Rounding up our five offerings this week is the second trailer for John Wick: Chapter 3.

Like all previous visuals for this franchise there’s a heavy clandestine feel to the trailer, and of course, Keanu Reeves does a whole lot of killing. There’s also a rather impressive sequence involving some motorbikes, oh, and Halle Berry is thrown in for good measure.

With the first two John Wick films proving great action flicks, hopefully this third installment brings the trilogy to a satisfying end.
