WhatsApp Business finally begins rolling out to iOS devices

When WhatsApp Business was first announced almost 14 months ago, it remained an Android exclusive, with the Facebook-owned company noting that an iOS version was in the works.

As it turns out, it took Facebook more than a year to get that version of the app up and running for iOS devices, as some users in a small number of countries have noted its availability.

The iOS flavour of WhatsApp Business was first spotted in Mexico by WABetaInfo, with reports stating that it has popped up in France and Brazil shortly thereafter. We’re yet to see it available to download in the local App Store, but we’re expecting it to arrive shorty as South African releases often arrive a couple of weeks after global rollout is announced.

That said, WhatsApp is yet to confirm the Business variant of its messaging platform’s availability for iOS.

As for what WhatsApp Business offers over the regular version of the app, as the name would suggest, many of the features are geared towards companies and organisations who want to engage more with their users.

To that end there’s the ability to set up specific info such as opening times and physical addresses, along with having greeting and away messages.

There’s also a few more enhanced features included in the WhatsApp Business API, which is designed for large businesses in particular, and allows these accounts to issue things like boarding passes and receipts to employees, as well as highly tailored notifications.

The API is also one of the ways that Facebook has been able to monetise a free offering like WhatsApp Business, with users charged for sending out notifications and responded to messages that have not been replied to for more than 24 hours.

Whether WhatsApp Business for iOS plans to add a few more features, remains to be seen.
