KwaZulu-Natal to host Fourth Industrial Revolution Summit this week

Late last week the Department of Science and Technology unveiled a roadmap for the new white paper on science and technology in the country, identifying the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) as a key focus and placing it at the centre of the SA’s development.

With that in mind KwaZulu-Natal this week will host the two-day inaugural 4IR Summit, which will be held in Durban on 25th and 26th March, to discuss ways the province can adapt to the challenges and opportunities presented by 4IR.

According to SA News, the event has been organised by the Moses Kotane Institute, which is a provincial government entity responsible for research and innovation, with government leaders and key stakeholders said to be attending the event.

“The summit will be attended by government, policy makers, the private sector, and tertiary institutions,” said KZN economic development MEC, Sihle Zikalala.

SA News adds the Department of Communication noted that South Africa has different elements of the 4IR spread across government, the private sector and civil society.

The Department of Communication added that there is currently no single blueprint which brings together all key role players into a single focus.
