The five must-use devil breakers in Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 (DMC 5), the latest instalment in the much-loved gaming franchise has been out for a couple of weeks now, and in that time has earned rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

We were heavily impressed by the game as well, with its slick gameplay and ability to string together satisfying combos providing hours of enjoyment in between weird and wonderful cut scenes with characters that say some of the most absurd things we’ve ever heard in a game.

As such there’s plenty to like about Devil May Cry 5, with one of the new elements providing plenty of fun as well.

We are of course talking about the Devil Breakers. These are the name given to the powerful prosthetic arms that the main protagonist, Nero, uses throughout the game, having lost his demon arm early on.

Don’t feel sorry for Nero, however, as the Devil Breakers more than make up for his lost appendage, while also offering up different ways to take on waves of demon enemies.

With that in mind we’ve highlighted five Devil Breakers in particular that we believe DMC 5 players will get the most joy out of, and as such, should definitely be used in-game.

Overture

The Overture is the first Devil Breaker that Nico (DMC 5’s in-game weapons specialist) crafts for you following you’re ill-fated encounter with a mysterious demon. It’s also somewhat of a swiss army knife in terms of its usability, and proves handy in a number of different scenarios without sacrificing any particular skill set, as some of the Devil Breakers do.

Using electric bursts in order to stun and deal damage to your enemies, the Overture is especially good when paired in combination with Nero’s broadsword. Add to that the ability to quickly propel you around the battle ground, and the Overture is one Devil Breaker you should have a lot of fun with.

Ragtime

Now for something a little less orthodox in the form of the Ragtime Devil Breaker. This specific model is available to craft once you take on a particularly tough boss.

The spoils from victory are considerable though, with Ragtime being a great Devil Breaker when it comes to taking on a vast number of demons. This as it has the ability to warp time, and slow down enemies when needed.

We found this quite useful when confronted with a combination of larger more powerful demons, and smaller less powerful ones at the same time. The larger ones could be frozen in time with Ragtime while you take out the smaller demons, and then once the riff raff is killed off, it’s time to tackle the heavy hitter.

Buster Arm

Next is the Buster Arm, which is actually a slightly botched attempt from Nico to try to recreate the demon arm that was taken away from Nero. It does not quite feature the same sort of hitting power, but it certainly isn’t a Devil Breaker to be taken lightly.

The Buster Arm can be used to throw hulking demons around, along with dishing out some powerful hits. That ability comes at a price though, as the Buster Arm is far less durable than the other Devil Breakers that Nico can craft for you.

As such it needs to be used sparingly, and perhaps is best implemented as a boss finisher, than a Devil Breaker for general purpose use like the Overture.

Tomboy

The fourth Devil Breaker you’re going to want to try is Tomboy. What makes this particular prosthetic noteworthy is the fact that it can be used to boost the power of Nero’s sword and gun to tremendous effect.

The resulting boost in power makes the Tomboy an especially good Devil Breaker to have for boss battles, but the vastly increased power also presents an issue as the degree of control that a player has is diminished.

As such you can do a lot of damage thanks to the Tomboy, but you’re aim takes a hit. Naturally then, only season DMC 5 players need apply for this one.

Rawhide

Rounded up our must-try Devil Breakers is Rawhide. Crafted by Nico thanks to demon metals collected by Nero, this Breaker unfurls to create a very long and extremely powerful whip that can be used to take out multiple enemies.

It’s not a powerhouse weapon per se, but rather appeals to the player who wants to add a bit of flair to their demon killing routine. It also increases the functionality of Nero’s snatch technique, which can be employed while taking on flying demons, or enemies that like to strike from afar.
