MTN Chat lets you recharge with airtime on WhatsApp

Airtime recharge has been given something of an upgrade, so long as you happen to be an MTN customer.

The mobile network operator has today launched MTN Chat, a service available on WhatsApp that allows customers to recharge. In future MTN Chat might feature support for things like upgrading your contract or other customer service queries.

““Customer-centricity is the driving force behind MTN Chat because we are taking a solution for an often-required service, to a platform we know our customers are already using, in the form of WhatsApp. MTN Chat is helping customers simply and seamlessly manage their accounts off a secure and convenient platform they already know and love,” says MTN SA executive for consumer business, Mapula Bodibe.

To access the service MTN customers need to save 083 123 0011 as a contact. Once the contact is saved, simple send a message to the number on WhatsApp. Customers will then be sent a link to opt-in to the service. For those that opt-in they will then return to a menu where they can select what they’d like to do.

MTN Chat was made possible thanks to a partnership with Clickatell.

“Our customers should be able to interact with us whenever and however they choose and working with the Clickatell team, that has much experience in this space, allowed us easily integrate MTN Chat with our existing offering. This is an exciting development for our customers and we look forward to exploring new possibilities with Clickatell in future,” Bodibe concludes.

MTN Chat is available right now.
