Closing date for SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards nearing

The SAB Foundation has called for entrants in its  2019 Social Innovation and Empowering Disability Awards, with an emphasis on services and products which benefit women, youth, people living in rural areas and those living with disabilities.

According to SAB, the 9th annual Social Innovation Awards are aimed at innovators, social entrepreneurs, institutions and social enterprises with prototypes or early-stage businesses that can solve social problems.

While the 4th annual Disability Empowerment Awards are targeted at seeking and awarding social enterprises, which have come up with innovative ideas which improve access to the economy, and solutions for disabled people. These ideas also need to prove capable of generating enough revenue to become sustainable over time.

“The SAB Foundation, through its Social Innovation Awards programme, aims to empower South Africa’s innovative thinkers and the brightest entrepreneurial minds to develop products and services which help the country’s most vulnerable communities and at the same time empower themselves as entrepreneurs,” said social innovation specialist at the SAB Foundation, Ntando Nodada.

The Foundation further states that winners will receive prizes ranging from R200 000 to R1.3 million, and winners will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and placed in a tailored programme with specially selected business mentors.

Applications opened on the 28th February and closes tomorrow, 28th March at midday.
