Knife Capital’s Grindstone Accelerator programme is headed to Jozi

After a successful showing in Cape Town, investment firm Knife Capital has announced plans to host its Grindstone Accelerator in Johannesburg.

The Grindstone Accelerator has seen a number of firms pass through the programme including Payfast, Quicket and Ionofm among others.

The accelerator has been held in Cape Town up until this point.

With this being the first time that the programme is offered in Johannesburg after successfully running it in Cape Town for four cohorts, we really want to tap into the city’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and highlight success stories,” co-managing partner at Knife Capital, Andrea Bӧhmert said in a statement.

The firm says that it is working with local incubators, and entrepreneur support organisations to make sure the programme is a success for entrepreneurs and Knife Capital.

Knife Capital has joined forces with the SA SME Fund and Deloitte to bring the programme to Johannesburg.

“The SA SME Fund is committed to developing world class local entrepreneurs and has partnered with Grindstone as they have consistently supported and grown South African Scale-Ups,” chief executive officer at the SA SME Fund, Ketso Gordhan said.

So what is the Grindstone Accelerator programme anyway? According to Knife Capital the programme compresses the venture capital engagement model from three to five years into just one.

The programme is aimed at startups that are ready to scale-up.

“Business support resources and services will include elements of training, corporate advisory, coaching, mentorship and funding. Specific interventions for each company include a structured gap analysis, understanding of the company value system, building a digital go-to-market strategy, financial modelling, intellectual property assessment, strategic and financial valuation as well as populating a data room,” explains Knife Capital.
