Gearbox reveals Borderlands 3 (with walking guns) and much more

After years of conjecture, false leads and little hints Gearbox Software finally revealed Borderlands 3 to the world in a livestream at PAX East.

Some technical issues of the Stream aside, the trailer really impressed by offering us up exactly what we’ve been wanting for all this time: more damn Borderlands.

The game looks very similar to past titles, not that that’s a bad thing as the art style is very important to the identity of the game, but don’t expect a huge revolution here.

It looks like past characters will make up a big portion of the cast here but there are four new Vault Hunters to play as, as it tradition.

Some highlights that you get to see for a split second include a monowheel, some impressive environments including a neon city, dinosaurs (!), a sax solo, the promise of more than a billion guns, and the pièce de résistance: walking guns.

We even turned that last one into a gif, enjoy.

Most of what we saw in the trailer seems to reflect leaks that have been shared around for some time now before the announcement. You can read them here but keep in mind that they may contain spoilers.

Borderlands 3 has no release date or even a window at this point but it is suggested that you visit Borderlands.com come 3rd April for more info. Aside from getting more details for this game, that is also the day that Borderlands: Game of the Year and Borderlands: The Handsome Collection Ultra HD are released.

Oh yeah, Borderlands 3 may be the biggest announcement but it’s technically the fourth piece of content announced from the franchise.

Going back to the first game, it is getting a Game of the Year Edition… a decade after release. This will add new weapons to the game, bump up the graphics, have quality of life improvements and contain all the DLC.

It launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on 3rd April and has a trailer and a store page if you want to poke around.

Next up is an Ultra HD Texture Pack for The Handsome Collection. This adds 4K and HDR support for the PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC.

It too has a trailer and a store page but unlike everything here this will be a free upgrade to owners of the collection. It also launches 3rd April.

Finally Borderlands 2 VR will receive all the DLC that the regular Borderlands 2 game has at the moment, with this content coming in US Summer of this year which is between the end of June and the end of September. Like the Ultra HD Texture Pack, this is also free.

If you’ve been meaning to pick up any of the currently available games, most of them seem to be reduced in price on all their respective platforms, so pick them up this weekend.
