The start of the 2019 Formula 1 season is just around the corner but at the weekend we were given a treat in the form of Mercedes-Benz’s all electric Formula E racer.
The EQ Silver Arrow 01 was shown off ahead of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and will debut in its first Formula E race at the end of 2019, or the sixth season of Formula E.
As The Verge points out, Mercedes-Benz doesn’t currently participate in Formula E. Rather than starting from scratch, Mercedes-Benz is said to be taking over the reigns at team HWA.
This should make for a “warmer” start for Mercedes-Benz which will also be taking part in Formula 1.
The automaker joins at a particularly interesting time for Formula E. For one, teams have to insure drivers have enough battery power to get through a full race rather than swapping out entire cars mid way through a race.
In terms of numbers, the vehicle will generate 340 horsepower and will accelerate from 0 – 60mph in 2.7 seconds.
While the silence of Formula E isn’t nearly as exciting as the blaring cacophony of noise that is F1, we highly recommend watching a Formula E race if you ever have the chance. The racing is superb and when things go wrong they do so in spectacular fashion.
