Huawei unveils new South African online store, powered by Mustek

Earlier this evening Huawei debuted a new online platform where South African consumers can purchase the latest devices that the Chinese manufacturer brings into the country.

Naturally it’s called the Huawei Store, and it is powered thanks to a partnership with local distributor Mustek. What that means for consumers is that Mustek will take care of the ordering, payment and logistics of any Huawei products found on the site, and Huawei will handle all the after sales aspects.

Huawei South Africa consumer business group CTO, Akhram Mohamed, tells us that the new online store will operate in a very similar manner to the way Huawei’s other channels do, with the only key difference being that the experience is purely online as opposed to in-store.

In terms of products, almost the entire gamut of Huawei offerings can be found, with phones, notebooks and tablets listed. On the phones side of things, the new Huawei P30 Series is found, but at the time of writing, all three models are out of stock. That should change though as the week progresses.

Huawei is also aiming to sell accessories via its online store, with cases in particular being one area consumers have been pestering the company about. To that end Huawei Mobile SA says more cover options are on the way, but right now you’re out of luck when it comes to the P30 Series.

Nevertheless the move to have a dedicated online store makes a lot of sense, especially as Huawei sells a wide range of devices outside of the smartphone realm. As such it could prove a great way to get consumers to try out other Huawei devices, as everything available locally is on one unified platform.

The Huawei Store is currently up and running.
