HMD Global’s flagship Nokia 9 PureView now available in South Africa

It’s turning into a banner week for flagship smartphones locally, as HMD Global has brought its latest offering to South Africa – the Nokia 9 PureView.

The new device was first unveiled at MWC 19, where we got the chance to see it in-person, but not test out the biggest feature of the phone – its camera setup.

To that end HMD Global (which owns the license to manufacture Nokia Mobile phones) has done a world first for the 9 PureView, giving it a five camera array on the rear.

While some claim that this is camera overkill, HMD Global are using all five lenses in order to deliver an enhanced photography experience. We’ll have to try it out for ourselves first though, before we can say that they achieved the feat.

As for its local availability, the Nokia 9 PureView is available to purchase today in Midnight Blue (only colour option). In terms of price, Vodacom is the only local network that has the PureView for now, with the contract costing R699 per month for 24 months.

If you’re looking at prepaid the Nokia 9 PureView will set you back R13 999 (RRP), but we have been told that some retailers are selling it for less, so it’s best to do a bit of shopping around before you commit to one option.

With Huawei and Samsung debuting flagship phones around the same price range, it should be interesting to see how the Nokia offering fares locally over the coming months.
