Unknown Motorola phone appears with four cameras on the rear

When we were at MWC 19 earlier this year as a guest of Lenovo, the prospect of checking out the latest Motorola (which the company owns) phones was an exciting one.

Sadly though, the firm didn’t have any brand new hardware to show off, with the 5G Moto Mod being the only real piece of noteworthy tech.

As such we’d have to wait until later in the year for Lenovo to reveal new Motorola devices, and if a recent leak is to be believed, the wait should not be that much longer.

The device in question (pictured in the header above) was spotted by well established tipster site Cash Karo, but the name of the device is still unknown. Nevertheless the teaser image still serves up quite a few details for this mystery Motorola branded phone.

The most noticeable detail is the four lens array on the rear, housed in a square orientation and featuring the Motorola logo just below it. While we’re not sure what served as inspiration for this particular design, the device does look a lot like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro which was launched late last year.

The precise nature of the lenses is unconfirmed, but it’s believed that 48 megapixels will play some part in the setup. As such it remains to be seen if one of the four will be 48MP, and the rest lower specced, as is often the case with phones that feature more than two lenses on the rear.

Engadget also posits that each of the four lenses could be 12MP each, which would be a similar approach to the one HMD Global employed for their five camera sporting Nokia 9 PureView. We’re a little less sure that they’ve gone this route, but at this stage, it’s anyone’s guess.

As for the other aspects of the mystery Motorola phone, a 6.2″ bezel-less display is expected up front, with a tear drop notch for the front camera and fingerprint sensor embedded below the screen.

If all that is true, the phone would be par for the course when it comes to the flagship phones we’ve seen in 2019.

When will it be launched and how much will it cost? Neither of those are known for now, but perhaps Lenovo plans to reveal all at its Tech World conference, which should be happening later this year.

For now all we can do is wonder whether Motorola wants to get into the flagship fray once again.
