The new Canon EOS 250D is the world’s lightest DSLR camera*

When comparing DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, the latter are often touted for their compact design and lightweight specifications. For amateur photographers wanting a smaller camera, but aren’t willing to ditch their DSLR, Canon has a new offering that may be of interest.

That camera is the Canon EOS 250D, which the Japanese manufacturer has christened as the world’s lightest DSLR camera. There is one thing to note though, as that billing pertains only to DSLR cameras with a moveable screen, which the 250D features.

Still tipping the scales at 449g, the new 250D is certainly one of the lightest DSLR cameras you can find at the moment.

Is that it’s only talking point, however?

Well according to specifications, the Canon EOS 250D should stand you in good stead. More specifically it features a 24.1 megapixel APS-C sensor, which is paired with a DIGIC 8 processor, that Canon says performs particularly well in low light conditions.

Added to this is dual pixel CMOS autofocus, and a wealth of 4K recording options including time lapses and frame grabs.

The aforementioned touchscreen on the rear is not simply to serve as an additional viewfinder, but also boasts vari-angle touch functionality to facilitate shooting from different positions when needed.

As this camera is aimed at the less seasoned photographer, the Canon EOS 250D also has a few assist modes to help first timers understand the shooting functions, and do some on-camera editing.

So how much will this camera cost you?

There’s no official RRP from Canon SA at the moment, but they have said that it will be available locally in May.
