Acer reveals new Helios 300 and Helios 700 Predator gaming notebooks

Whenever Acer hosts a press conference, it’s the Taiwanese company’s Predator gaming division that gets most of the attention. It was no different earlier today when the firm revealed their new hardware at their annual Next at Acer event in New York.

To that end Acer had two new gaming notebooks in particular to showcase – the Helios 300 and Helios 700.

Starting with the slightly lesser specced model, the Helios 300 is designed to be the mid-range offering in the Predator lineup and features a 15.6″ and 17.3″ Full HD screen up front capable of delivering a 144Hz refresh rate.

On the processor side of things Acer has Intel’s 9th Gen Core i7 chipset on offer, along with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 GPU and up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. There’s also two PCIe NVMe SSDs in RAID available, but Acer does not detail the sizes of the storage.

To keep things from getting hot under the collar Acer integrated their latest 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans, which yield a reported 45 percent improvement in airflow for the Helios 300.

As for the Helios 700, it’s the new flagship model in the Predator lineup and features the specifications to match.

Like the 300, this new gaming notebook serves up the same 9th Gen Intel i7 processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 setup. Along with up to 64GB DDR4 RAM, 17″ Full HD screen (144Hz refresh rate) with G-Sync and 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans for enhanced cooling.

One of the most notable features, however, are the keys, which Acer is calling MagForce. The upshot of this new design is the ability for users to customise the variable force of said keys. The portion of the notebook housing the trackpad can also be extended and tilted for a more comfortable hand resting position.

As with most of the hardware that Acer has show off in New York this week, there is now local pricing or availability information for the Helios 300 or Helios 700 at this stage, but Acer Africa says more detail will follow in coming weeks.
