From 16th April new MTN prepaid users will be getting a bit extra when they recharge.

Dropping R20 or more will net them 50 SMSes, 50 minutes (to any network) and 50 megabytes of data. This applies to new prepaid customers for seven days.

After those seven days the deal changes somewhat but there are still bundles to be had. Buying data gets a free voice bundle, buying a voice bundle gets a free data bundle, and bundles incorporating both will get an equivalent one in return.

All of this applies to new prepaid customers as well as those migrating to that package from another network.

“The new customers will be charged a rate of R0.99c per minute, Out of Bundle (OOB) rate of R0.29c and R0.50c per SMS,” a press release for the promotion reads. Handy to keep on hand if you do decide to make the change and need to recharge after the promotion is over.

With the costs of everything mobile so high in South Africa, any small additions tacked on does help. The fact that these additions apply to prepaid, and not a contract, are welcome too.
