Whichever side of the fence you fall on when it comes to wearables, there is still some value and application for them, depending on the device.

Case in point fitness bands, which not only track a wearer’s movement throughout the day, but have also been embraced by the likes of Discovery Vitality as a means of rewarding its members for being active.

Recently the medical aid scheme has been partnering with Huawei, and in particular the Chinese manufacturer’s Band 2 Pro wearable.

More specifically the pair are working with Sportsmans Warehouse to offer Vitality members 100 percent cash back when they buy a Huawei Band 2 Pro.

It’s not cash in hand we must add, with it breaking down accordingly:

  • Up to 25 percent upfront discount on the Huawei Band 2 Pro.
  • Up to 25 percent cash back, upfront, through the Discovery’s HealthyGear benefit and having Sportsmans Warehouse as a preferred partner. Both the main member and spouse (where applicable) need to complete a Vitality Age Assessment and Vitality Fitness Assessment to earn up to 25 percent cash back on qualifying spend at the preferred partner.
  • Up to 50 percent cash back for achieving weekly Vitality Active Rewards goals over 24 consecutive months.
  • Each adult member on a Vitality policy can activate the Huawei Band 2 Pro for one qualifying fitness device in a 24-month period, but just one fitness booster benefit can be activated per member at a time.

As such there are quite a few steps involved in the process, but that has not stopped Vitality members in the past when it comes to potentially earning rewards.

With the Huawei Band 2 Pro retailing for a recommended R1 299 at Sportsmans, trying to get a portion back in Vitality benefits may not be a bad idea.

At the time of writing there is no closing date for this offer, but it’s always best to confirm with the Sportsmans Warehouse staff you’re purchasing from about the validity, and terms and conditions of the offer beforehand.
