Boston Dynamics does a strongman classic: the truck pull

Even for those not interested in the sport of moving heavy stuff around, a human being pulling a truck has long been a great feat of strength and endurance, and now Boston Dynamics is doing it with its robots.

A pack of 10 SpotMini robots was able to pull a rather large truck across a level parking lot.

Before you start thinking of these machines moving one of those road trains with dozens of wheels, this truck looks to be only slightly bigger than a moving van.

Tempering expectations more the short video showing off this feat (embedded below) has a description stating that the pull is “~1 degree uphill” with the truck in neutral, but it doesn’t specify the truck’s weight.

That being said the Boston Dynamic robots have never been shown with a focus on strength, and that same description has another piece of interesting information as it states that the SpotMini will be available “soon”.

We’re not sure when “soon” is, how much these robots will cost or if the average person without a military budget can buy one, but it will be interesting to see these years of impressive / worrying videos paying off with a commercial product.

Speaking of: if you’re not subscribed to the Boston Dynamics YouTube channel, you’re doing it wrong. Aside from the entertainment and marvel of human engineering, it will probably help with the whole Roko’s basilisk thing. Actually it may make it much worse, we’re not entirely sure.
