10 Things to stream this Easter weekend

The Easter weekend is upon us, and that means four days to laze around and relax at home. Some of you might be going to spend time with family members outside your province or maybe taking a short holiday to your favourite destination.

Whatever you might be up to this Easter weekend, we have selected five movies and TV series for you to enjoy from some of the best streaming and renting services.

Mary Poppins Returns

You can rent this “sequel” from DSTV Box Office for R40. This new version of Mary Poppins is suitable for the whole family and if you are into musicals, this will bring back the child in you, as Emily Blunt takes on the role of the magical nanny that saves the Banks family again.

Aquaman

This is DC Comics movie, and one of their most successful to date. If your into superhero movies then this is definitely worth the watch. With Jason Momoa taking on the role of Arthur Curry and fighting to claim the throne as the King of Atlantis, Aquaman is crammed full of adventure. You can rent this movie at DSTV Box Office for R40 too.

Mortal Engines

Sticking with the fantasy adventure theme there’s Mortal Engines from Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson. You’ll get worked up cheering on the heroine in this film, Hester Shaw, as she faces the terrible treat of a giant predatory cities on wheels

Mortal Engines is available to rent for R35 or for R165 on Cell C’s black.

XXX: Return of Xander Cage

If you like your action on the insane and somewhat unbelievable side, why not give XXX: Return of Xander Cage a watch. It’s packed with action, plus you get to see ridiculously good-looking, heavily tattooed people saving the world. If that doesn’t say Easter Weekend, we don’t know what does.

Another offering from black, you can rent it for R35 or buy for R135.

The Perfect Date

A Netflix Original, this film is a romantic comedy that sees a high schooler launch an app offering his services as for fake dates, If you’re into teen romance movies then this film is for you. Plus if you haven’t already subscribed to Netflix, you get the first month free to test it out.

Game of Thrones (GOT)

If you haven’t heard or watched GOT, you clearly haven’t owned a TV for the past decade. This is the most talked about TV series in recent memory, and now the eighth and final season has begun airing. If you haven’t got the chance to catch up, the Easter Weekend will be a good place to start.

Showmax has all seven series for you to binge watch and catch up to the rest of the world, or maybe you just want to re-watch your favourite scenes from the series.

Ray Donovan

Another series available on Showmax is Ray Donovan, with the local platform airing the sixth season of this highly addictive show starring Liev Schreiber as the titular fixer. If you like criminal underworld, violence and dysfunctional families, Ray Donovan is for you.

Luther

The final series from Showmax we’re suggesting is Luther. It stars Idris Elba as the eponymous detective who uses his skills to hunt down the worst criminals in London. This series is more of thriller / mystery than it is crime solving, and as such will keep you coming back for more It is in its fifth season, and you can watch all of them on Showmax.

Love, Death & Robots

One of Netflix’s other Original series that recently arrived on the platform is Love, Death & Robots. It’s a series of animated episodes in the same vein as The Animatrix, with each episode from a different creator and touching of unique subjects. There’s quite a bit of NSFW stuff in it, but well worth the watch if you like futuristic series.

Our Planet

Rounding things off is another Netflix property that was added a few weeks ago – Our Planet., This documentary series about Earth is narrated by David Attenborough and focuses on how animals survive and exist in different parts of the world. If you want to see animals in their natural habitat, as well as see how global warming is affecting that, this is something you’ll want to watch.
