Samsung delays Galaxy Fold launch to investigate breakages

After a long weekend questioning whether Samsung would delay the launch of the Galaxy Fold, the South Korean firm did just that.

Following reports of breakages, Samsung has decided to take the safe bet and delay the launch of its first handset with a folding display.

This comes shortly after reviewers who were given pre-release testing units (which in this case represented the final product folks would be able to buy) ran into a few snags.

For one the protective layer that sits atop the folding display could be easily removed making the screen itself incredibly vulnerable. User error aside, Samsung also has to deal with its own device causing breakages.

“Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance,” Samsung said in a statement.

“We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold,” the firm added.

Samsung has not announced a new release date for the Fold but has said it will do so in the coming weeks.

We’re curious to see how much Samsung has to change to stop the Fold from breaking out in the wild.
