Airbnb reportedly working on its own original travel shows

Whatever your opinion of Airbnb may be, you cannot deny the effect that the home sharing service has had on the hospitality and tourism industry, despite governments trying to strictly regulate it.

While that’s a debate for another day, some interesting reports suggest Airbnb may be looking into creating its own original content.

According to Reuters, the online platform is looking to use said content to tempt more people into traveling, using TV shows for specific destinations to do so.

While the specifics of the project have not been detailed, Reuters sources say the company has been contemplating the idea for some three years now, with CEO Brian Chesky also adding that Airbnb could look to create its own studio.

Precisely where this original content will air is unclear, but Airbnb is involved with a new series for Apple TV+ called Home, as well as producing a recent documentary set to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival titled Gay Chorus Deep South.

Airbnb also has not ruled out using its own mobile app to stream said shows, which would be an intriguing approach, and likely require an entire rebuild of the application from its current form.

With Airbnb still said to be the R&D phase for this project, it could be quite some time before they have anything ready to show to the public.

Either way it should be interesting to see if such a venture would indeed lead to more use of their rental service, as well as whether people would want to watch said shows.
