Minecraft creator seemingly not invited to anniversary event

There’s no denying the impact Minecraft had on the world and one would think its creator would be invited to the tenth anniversary of the game.

You would be wrong however as the owner of Minecraft developer Mojang, Microsoft, doesn’t want Markus “Notch” Persson there.

A spokesperson for the Redmond giant told Variety that Persson’s “comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of Minecraft”.

Over the years Persson has grown increasingly controversial with some going so far as to label him a troll. Of course that’s not a far reach to make when you take a look at his Twitter feed.

Transphobia, sexism, support for the QAnon movement and other questionable opinions have become par for the course as far as Persson is concerned.

Microsoft has been slowly scrubbing references to Persson in Minecraft but has not given a reason for why that is. The assumption of course is that Persson’s comments warrant Microsoft distancing itself from him and it is hard to blame the firm.

Despite being rather vocal on Twitter, Persson has not commented on his lack of an invite and to be honest, we hope it stays that way.
