Square Enix reveals gameplay teaser for Final Fantasy VII Remake

Last night PlayStation held a live stream State of Play event on YouTube, with its dedicated channel previewing some of the new titles expected to launch on the PS4 in coming months. Along with previews came a look at a title that’s been a few years in the making – Final Fantasy VII Remake.

It’s strange to think that it’s been almost four years since developer Square Enix first showcased a teaser for Remake at PSX in 2015.

Since then the Japanese studio has been relatively quiet on details for this updated version of Final Fantasy VII, but now we have a bit more to go on in the form of a short gameplay trailer.

It shows our main protagonist Cloud Strife in action, with his signature Buster Sword doing some damage.

From what we can tell in the trailer, most of the gameplay will be relatively similar to the original Final Fantasy VII, although the third-person camera angle during fights looks to a bit tighter in on the fighting. As such we probably won’t get the grand scale that the recent Final Fantasy XV served up.

While this latest trailer drums up a bit more interest in the Remake, there is still no release date or window for the game. As such we’ll have to wait until E3 in June when Square Enix is expected to reveal more information. Hopefully that includes a PS4 release date.

Until then, hit play on the trailer below and enjoy. After that check out the original 2015 teaser as well.
