Africa’s second official LEGO store to open in Menlyn Park come 1st June

Last year South Africa and the continent as a whole got something a bit special when the first ever official LEGO store opened in Sandton. Now it’s happening again in 2019 as a second store is set to open in Menlyn Park just a few weeks from now.

An official newsletter from the company announced the opening day of the new store for 1st June. While we’ve known about the store since at least the middle of April, we’ve not had confirmation on the opening date until now.

Aside from the fact that this new store may be easier for people to visit when compared to Sandton, there will be additional reasons to visit this store in particular. Eighty new products will apparently be launched on that day, and two sets will be exclusively available only at this store.

The 80 new products are probably just the latest waves of new sets to be released. Several Harry Potter and Star Wars sets have been revealed recently, so our bets are on those being on shelves once the doors open. LEGO’s own in-house theme Hidden Side will probably be on show too.

As for the two exclusives,u they’ll no doubt be large, expensive and desirable ones. Our best ideas on that is the Stranger Things set (which has been leaked already if you look around) and the recently announced 75253: BOOST Droid Commander set. The latter is really interesting as it takes LEGO’s BOOST robotics platform and applies it to a trio of Star Wars Droids. See the images below for more on that.

We’ll hopefully be in attendance when the doors open next month. To see what an official LEGO store looks like – and to find out why it’s different from an ordinary toy store – see our coverage on the opening of the Sandton branch.

The opening looks to be open to the public with giveaways on the day, so try to make it down.
