Lenovo unveils a folding notebook, or is it a tablet?

Folding smartphones are the cock of the walk at the moment although Samsung’s foray into the space hasn’t been without issue.

Now folding fever has spread to the realm of notebooks with Lenovo unveiling the first folding notebook in the ThinkPad X1 family.

We use the term “notebook” loosely here as the device looks more like a folding tablet than a notebook. But, Lenovo insists it’s a fully-fledged notebook with a foldable screen.

The display is a 13.3inch OLED affair with a 2K resolution. The exact resolution not specified so we’re assuming that means 2 048 x 1080p.

Backing up Lenovo’s claim that this is a notebook and not a tablet is the fact that the folding device is running Windows and is powered by Intel. Of course, just having those features doesn’t mean you have a notebook but perhaps that’s the sort of thinking Lenovo is trying to challenge here.

Looking at a hands on from Engadget it appears as if this folding Lenovo is low on ports. That device is a prototype however and it’s said that there will be USB Type C and Type A connectivity options when it comes to ports.

As for when this notebook will become available, strap in for the long haul because Lenovo says full product details and availability will be revealed in 2020.
