Naspers’ Joburg operations to run out of WeWork’s first South African space

Earlier this year creative office specialists WeWork announced that they were opening up their first South African location in Johannesburg. More specifically their new base of operations would be on 173 Oxford Road in Rosebank, with the space said to be ready for occupants come the third quarter of this year.

We’re no closer to knowing precisely when WeWork will be opening the doors to their Joburg offices, but we do know who one of their tenants will be – Naspers. Or rather the Johannesburg-based side of their business.

As such it’s a feather in the cap of the organisation, especially as Naspers is one of the largest technology investors on the planet, and having them operate out of their facility serves as a great advertisement.

“In looking for a new location for our Johannesburg team, we were impressed by the great environment that WeWork could create for our people and we are looking forward to moving in and benefitting from all that WeWork will offer,” explained Shamiela Letsoalo, media relations director at Naspers.

Who else will be joining Naspers in the location remains to be seen, but the firm’s employees will form part of 400 000 members that are currently using WeWork locations across the globe.

Along with the prime location, members at the Johannesburg WeWork offices will also have access to the internet access, cleaning services and furniture, with the added ability to choose from a variety of membership plans, including hot-desking, using available desks, or having a private, noise-controlled office.

“We’re thrilled to be welcoming Naspers into the WeWork community in our first location in South Africa. The deal recognises WeWork’s dedication to larger enterprise companies who now make up more than 30% of our global membership,” adds Giulio Limongelli, head of growth for WeWork EMEA.

“We continue to expand across EMEA and I’m pleased to announce that we’ve just celebrated our 100,000th member joining the community here,” Limongelli concluded.
