Steam kicks off ‘Skulls for the Skull Throne’ event sale

If you’re not familiar with the Warhammer / 40K universe Steam just started a sale that may sound a bit hectic.

“Skulls for the Skull Throne”, usually preceded by the term “Blood for the Blood God” is a phrase used by the forces of Chaos for the Blood God itself Knorne. It’s also a bit of meme and has lent itself to the name of a sale for most games based on Games Workshop licences.

While these types of themed weekend sales are nothing new for Steam, it seems like this has also been done to coincide with many of these games receiving recent updates.

If you go to the main page for the sale you will see that the games with top billing here all have banners pointing out some type of new content or additional add-on for purchasing them during the event.

Vermintide 2, for example, will give you a character portrait frame (made of skulls) as well as a new quest.

While the sale does list some upcoming games none of them are discounted as far as we can see, so the event is also being used to showcase some upcoming titles like Chaosbane and Inquisitor – Prophecy.

As always we advise against pre-ordering and suggest simply waiting for early reviews to see if the games are worth your money. Given the fact that Games Workshop titles are very hit and miss affairs in terms of quality, and there’s no discount to be had, it’s the smart move.

Browse the sale to see if there’s anything that may interest you, but we’ve also made a short list of the best deals or general recommendations that also happen to be discounted down below.

If you’re not at all invested in these franchises we still recommend that everyone play Space Marine, as it’s a massively fun hack n slash title on its own.

Oh, and we’ve excluded the full names of most of the games in this story, as almost all of them have “Warhammer:” or “Warhammer 40,000:” preceding them.
