Samsung’s budget A2 Core lands locally for R1299

In the market for a budget friendly smartphone? It looks like you’re in luck, as Samsung recently revealed the local pricing for its entry-level Galaxy A2 Core.

Samsung is touting the device as delivering flagship features at an affordable price, and we can only agree with them on one front – the pricing. To that end the recommended retail price on the A2 Core is R1 299, with the phone aimed squarely at consumers who want to upgrade from a feature phone, or those in need of an inexpensive backup option.

So what’s the A2 Core sporting?

Up front is a 5.0″ QHD display, with either a black or blue colour option available locally. There’s a 5MP shooter on the rear, with a similarly megapixel-ed version up front. Added to this is a 2 600mAh battery and the operating system is Android 9.0 (Go). Internally an octa-core Exynos 7870 is doing the heavy lifting, and 1GB of RAM is on offer, with 8GB of storage added to the mix.

By budget smartphone standards then, the Galaxy A2 Core ticks all the necessary boxes.

With a range of tempting entry-level phones on the market these days, it should be interesting to see how Samsung’s latest device fares locally.
