Valve’s new Steam Chat app available on iOS and Android

Valve has been busy on the mobile front of late, with the gaming platform releasing two applications in the past week. The first was the Link app finally being ported over to iOS, and now the Steam Chat app is launching on iOS and Android.

This is essentially a mobile version of the dedicated desktop client that Steam users have had access to for a while now, with the latter having recently gone under a redesign, and adding a few new features.

The mobile version of Steam Chat is not shortchanged in that department either, with it including key aspects like the friends list to see who else is playing, invite links to join the action, rich chat for higher fidelity content sharing, customisable notifications and group chat functionality.

Valve also adds that more features are on the way for Steam Chat, with their team already in the midst of working on them.

“We’re already working on improvements to the Steam Chat app, including voice chat. With Steam Chat moving to its own dedicated app, the original Steam Mobile app will see significant upgrades focused on account security,” explained the Steam blog post about the announcement.

“Our plans include better Steam Guard options to help securely log into your Steam account, such as QR codes and one-touch login, and improved app navigation,” it concludes.

Both are free to download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store now.
