Computex 2019 is currently underway, and while the focus is mainly on PCs, notebooks and the hardware within, mobile is also getting a shout thanks to ARM.

The British firm which recently stopped supplying Huawei, as did several others, now has two pieces of mobile hardware it’s showing off at Computex in Taipei, with a specific focus on enhancing the mobile experience for 5G and AI in particular.

The first offering is the Mali-G77 GPU, which touts 40 percent improved graphics performance over its predecessor, as well as 60 percent increase in machine learning speed. Added to this is 30 percent better energy efficiency, along with using 40 percent less bandwidth.

The other piece of kit is the Cortex-A77 CPU, which ARM has refined slightly from the 7nm A76 it unveiled last year. To that end there’s a 20 percent jump in per-clock performance, allowing the new chipset to be roughly 35 times better at machine learning tasks.

No word on when ARM plans to ship these components to mobile manufacturers, but what should prove more interesting is how each company makes the most of the machine learning, power efficiency and bandwidth saving capabilities of this new hardware.

With it often varying from manufacturer to manufacturer, just because your device sports the same ARM kit as another, does not performance will be on par.
