Intel unveils beastly Core i9-9900KS running at 5GHz

Computex kicks off later this week but ahead of the show Intel showcased a new processor that has tongues wagging.

That processor is a special edition of the firm’s Core i9-9900K dubbed the Core i9-9900KS. Aside from the unimaginative name, Intel says that this chip will hit 5GHz on every single one of its eight cores rather than just one.

We should mention that the 5GHz figure the chip’s turbo frequency with the base clock coming in at 4GHz. This is up from the 3.6GHz clock of the i9-9900K’s 3.6GHz.

Intel says the chip will be available this year but there is no word on when, how much it will cost and, well, frankly, almost all other details about the chip.

Those details should be forthcoming later this week when Intel hosts a keynote at Computex.

The firm is also expected to show off its new 10nm mobile PC product code-named Ice-Lake.

That product is expected to be running Intel’s new Gen11 graphics which reportedly improve performance by double in CS:GO, Total War: Three Kingdoms and Rainbow Six Siege.

All we have to do now is wait for more information from Intel. Well that and put a pin in our plans to upgrade our PCs.

Just as an aside, the header image is not the i9-9900KS as we have not seen the silicon just yet so we’ve instead used an image we had on file.
