President Ramaphosa delays announcement of new cabinet

Africa Day was celebrated on 25th May over the weekend, with it also serving as the inauguration of the 6th South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa. After the inauguration the President was expected to announce his new cabinet, but he delayed the announcement until later this week.

According to IOL News, the delay is due to the President deciding to exclude ANC leaders who were entangled in allegations of wrongdoing.

“The members who have been flagged by the commission have been called to appear before it will now be able to present their version on the allegations against them, the national executive committee (NEC) will look at the recommendations of the integrity commission and then make a final decision,” said ANC national spokesperson, Pule Mabe.

Furthermore, IOL News said that some of the flagged members include the ANC’s national chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, deputy president David Mabuza and ANC head of presidency Zizi Kodwa.

“The party’s top brass, who had been flagged had not had an opportunity to state their case, now they will have explained themselves, and the NEC will be in a better position to make a determination in terms of the recommendations of the integrity of the commission,” explained Mabe.
