The Persistence of Chaos is a piece of art that we are rather stunned by.
The piece is a Samsung NC10-14GB 10.2 inch notebook, in blue, running Windows XP Service Pack 3. Not the most exciting notebook, we’ll admit, but this particular model is unique in that it contains six strains of the world’s most dangerous malware.
Those malware strains are:
- ILOVEYOU
- MyDoom
- SoBig
- WannaCry
- DarkTequila
- BlackEnergy
The piece was commissioned by Deep Instinct and created by the artist Guo O Dong and it is being auctioned off later today.

The malwares of The Persistence of Chaos have caused over $95 billion dollars’ worth of damage, simply because businesses weren’t prepared for attacks they haven’t seen before,” reads a blurb on the auction page.
The Persistence of Chaos is isolated and air-gapped to prevent the malware from spreading.
The piece is currently being auctioned with a reserve of $1.2 million.
What’s the point of this you ask? Well for us we feel that preserving these disastrous pieces of software is rather clever. It’s all good and well for us to talk about ILOVEYOU, WannaCry or BlackEnergy but we can’t really see how they work or what they looked like.
Oh and before you consider using this notebook for evil, its internet capabilities and available ports will be disabled before The Persistence of Chaos is shipped.
