David Mabuza will be sworn in as an MP this afternoon

Late last week, Deputy President David Mabuza, made a request not to be sworn in as a Member or Parliament (MP), in light of allegations brought forward by a report from the ANC Integrity Commission in which he was alleged to have brought prejudice to the party and brought the organisation into disrepute.

Mabuza then requested his swearing-in to be postponed in order for him to deal with the report by the commission.

With that in mind, this morning the office of ANC chief whip, Pemmy Majodina, confirmed that Mabuza will be sworn in as MP at the Presidential Guest House in Pretoria, later today.

According to IOL News, Mabuza met with the integrity commission of the ANC late last week to discuss adverse findings that had been levelled against him and 20 others.

“The deputy President of the ANC comrade David Mabuza will be sworn in as an ANC MP today, the swearing-in ceremony will be conducted by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng,” the ANC said in a statement.

Furthermore IOL News notes that Mabuza was previously the Mpumalanga premier, and has been implicated in a number of scandals including the alleged theft of R14 million from his farmhouse in 2010 and various political killings in the province during his tenure, of which none of the allegations have been tested in the court of law.

We will have to wait and see what unfolds during the course of the week, as President Cyril Ramaphosa, delayed the announcement of the new cabinet as he wanted to exclude other ANC leaders who were accused of wrongdoing.
