Nvidia announces its new Studio platform aimed at creatives

Computex 2019 officially kicks off in Taipei today, but the past couple of days have seen a number of companies reveal their latest offerings for the computing hardware focused event. One such firm is Nvidia, which recently debuted its new platform for creatives called Nvidia Studio.

The platform will feature a range of SDKs and drivers for creators to handle most graphics-focused tasks. While the perfect use case is unknown, Nvidia appears to aiming this offering to video editors and graphic designers in particular.

Along with handling the graphics-related tasks, Nvidia Studio will also support the company’s CUDA-X AI platform, which can be used to automate editing tasks like colour matching for videos, or the tagging and organising of photos.

“Creators are constantly faced with tight deadlines and depend on having the latest hardware and creative tools to complete their projects on time, without compromising quality,” noted Eric Bourque, senior software development manager at Autodesk.

“We’re excited that NVIDIA is expanding the Studio Driver program to bring the highest level of support and performance to the latest versions of Arnold, 3ds Max and Maya,” he enthused about the announcement.

To accompany the new platform Nvidia has also tapped several of its manufacturing partners to create 17 notebooks compatible with Nvidia Studio, and therefore have a wide range of options to compete with the current creator’s notebook of choice – the MacBook Pro.

Some of the partners include HP, Dell, Asus, Acer, Gigabyte, MSI and Razer, most of whom are in attendance at Computex this week. Nvidia adds that the notebooks a choice of the manufacturer’s GPUs including the Quadro RTX 5000, 4000 and 3000, or GeForce RTX 2080, 2070 and 2060. They’ll also feature 16GB of RAM and sport 4K capable screens, according to Nvidia.

We’re yet to see any of the notebooks in-person just yet, but Nvidia says they will be available sometime next month. As for the local availability we’ll have to wait until more news is forthcoming from Nvidia’s South African team.

Nvidia Studio, however, launches today.
