HP shows off mobile workstations and a VR backpack

While we’ve already covered HP’s Envy swathed in wood, the manufacturer has shown off a few other devices worth taking a look at.

The firm has unveiled a number of new consumer focused products but it’s the Workstations that have piqued our interest.

First up is the HP ZBook 15 G6 and the HP ZBook 17 G6 which the firm says are primed for video editors, VR creators, designers and architects.

The notebooks come equipped with 9th Gen Intel Core or Intel Xeon processors as well as Nvidia Quadro RTX GPUs. Tool-less expansion let’s users add storage or memory easily.

The ZBook 17 also sports a monitor with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space.

There is no word on pricing for either of the mobile workstations at the time of writing.

For VR creators HP is bringing its HP VR Backpack to market.

The backpack houses an 8th Generation Intel Core i7 (exact model not specified) and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 to handle graphics.

The VR backpack is expected to retail for €3 900 (~R64 443) though no local pricing was given.

“The free-roam tetherless experience is designed to address the needs of multi-user entertainment venues, architectural walk-throughs, and design simulations. While docked or VESA mounted, the VR Backpack acts as a powerful, super-slim desktop ready for intensive design work,” HP said in a media statement.

HP tells us that the ZBook mobile workstations will arrive in the country later this year with no exact date specified. The VR backpack is expected to be available in the Europe, Middle East and African market later this year as well but no exact date has been specified.
