More details emerge for Comic Con Cape Town 2020

A few months ago organisers of Comic Con Africa, Reed Exhibitions Africa and ReedPOP, announced that the annual event would be heading to the Mother City next year, but dates and other details remained a mystery.

Now a few more details have emerged for the event, the first of which being that it’s scheduled to take place from 1st to 3rd May at the Cape Town Stadium. This is the same venue where several sporting events and concerts take place, so it’s unclear whether they will be a mix of roofed and open air locations for next year’s Comic Con.

Along with the dates, which pushes things up almost six months earlier compared to previous years. We also have a new name for the event, with it now being called Comic Con Cape Town 2020.

“Following on from the success of Comic Con Africa 2018, Cape Town, the movie capital of South Africa, was aptly chosen as the setting for this brand new event in a unique-destination with its own personality; which aims to focus more on films and series while showcasing artistry of our local comic community,” explained organisers in a press release.

“It will be an annual event in May each year and Comic Con Africa in Johannesburg will continue to be an annual event in September. The event promises to thrill fans with an array of international and local celebrities set to attend,” they add.

In terms of talent scheduled to make an appearance, despite being a little under a year away, Comic Con Cape Town 2020 will see Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon in American Gods) heading to the City Bowl, as well as comic book illustrator Mark Brooks also joining the action. Those are the only notable attendees for now, but hopefully more big names will be announced (and actually show up) in coming months.

“With the rise of pop culture in South Africa, conventions such as Comic Con Cape Town serve as fantastic platforms for enthusiasts to immerse themselves in all things pop culture making this a not to be missed event,” organisers concluded.

We trust that this will indeed be the case.
