The Master & Dynamic MW65 is their first noise-cancelling headphones

If you’re an audiophile or even have a passing interest in audio equipment, you’ve likely heard of New York-based brand Master & Dynamic.

The company knows how to make a great pair of headphones, but has steered clear of offering noise-cancelling options. That is, until today.

Filling that gap is the new MW 65. Along with featuring active noise-cancelling (ANC), which is the far better version of its passive cousin, the new headphones are also wireless.

In terms of design and styling, these new offerings look a lot like the MW60 headphones, and featured the same mix of leather for the ear cup and headband, and aluminium for the rest of the device.

As with most Master & Dynamic products, you’re paying a premium and the MW65’s aren’t cheap at a recommended $499 (~R7 220). The headphones also sport a dedicated Google Assistant button which pairs with your phone if compatible, and comes in either a brown / silver and black / gunmetal colour option.

Seeing as these headphones feature both wireless (still has 3.5mm headphone jack if needed) and noise-cancelling functionality, battery life is going to be important. To that end Master & Dynamic says the MW65 can muster up to 24 hours from a single charge, which is handy, but they take up to 12 hours and 15 minutes in order to reach fully charged.

As such you may find yourself switching between wireless and wired modes, along with toggling ANC on and off quite often to squeeze out as much battery life as possible from the MW65’s.
