Uber is offering a R25 discount on rides this election day

Tomorrow South Africans head to polling stations around the country to vote in the national elections.

To make getting there a bit easier, Uber has partnered with the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa and the Nelson Mandela Foundation to offer riders a R25 discount to and from voting stations.

“Everyone of age has the right to vote and we wanted to ensure that we make the travelling experience much easier for our riders. Election Day is an important day in the country and using our technology and resources, we can help make it easier for every Uber rider in South Africa to get to their voting station at the push of a button,” general manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, Alon Lits, said in a statement.

To get the discount you’ll need to use the promo code VOTESA19.

To apply the code, open your Uber app, head to Payment, look for Promotions and select that option.

Tap Add Promo/Gift Code, type in VOTESA19, click add and then book your ride.

The code will give you R25 off of your next two rides so you don’t have to enter the code again.

It also goes without saying that this offer is only applicable in the areas where Uber operates, namely, Johannesburg and Pretoria, Ekurhuleni, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

The final caveat to this offer is that it is only available from 7AM to 9PM on Wednesday 8th May so be sure to use the code before the end of the day.
