Weta Workshop shows off $699 Balrog bust, limited to 666 copies

You may know Weta Workshop as the effects house behind countless movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell and more, but you may not know that they also take the props they work on for those movies and turn them into collectables you can buy.

One such example has recently been showcased by them in a bust of the Balrog from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the description of the item Weta Workshop states that they were responsible for the creature designs and physical effects for the three movies, so they’re the best people to make such a thing.

The bust is on sale right now for $699 and is limited to 666 copies. The store page for the bust states that the stock is low but it is still up for order at the time of writing.

Some people have already received their busts and have left reviews, one stating that they wish a size comparison could be provided to better illustrate the 28 X 49 X 30 centimetre dimensions.

Providing just that is a recent video uploaded a few hours ago to Weta Workshop’s official YouTube channel. It shows off what’s in the box (an optional stand as the bust can be wall mounted, the bust itself and a power supply for the 360 embedded LEDs) and gives you a better idea of what you’re spending so much money on.

Aside from the unboxing, you’re also given details about the creation of the piece, which has been cast in resin.

Back when this piece was first shown off in August of 2018 it was limited to 888 copies. We’re not sure if this 666 limited run is a second wave or the remaining stock. If it’s the former then it’s a good second chance for those who missed it the first time.
