God of War’s 3D printed Mjölnir is back with a new lick of paint

Very mild spoilers for God of War 2018 below

Back in March we featured a 3D print of Mjölnir, not from any Marvel movie, but from 2018’s God of War where it makes brief appearances as part of a statue and in a hidden ending cutscene.

That version leaned more towards the statue side of things as it was unpainted after having been printed in a grey filament. This new one, however, is fully painted for your cosplay or display needs.

Maker Colin Story is the man behind this entirely new hammer, telling us that he never intended to finish this project as it began as a teaching exercise:

“It started with my younger cousin asking how I go about learning how to use a 3D modelling software so he gave [me] concept art from the video game God of War, so I showed him briefly how to start it,” he says, “I then continued the work when I had time to and when I was finished modelling I printed out for his birthday and he was happy.”

The software used here was Fusion 360 with the time taken to completion being spaced out over two weeks as it was worked on as a side project.

Printing took 76 hours with the hammer measuring in at 39.3 X 27.5 X 12 centimetres. With an infill of 15% it weighs in at 542 grams, making it light enough for just about anyone to lift.

After using filler to cover up the gaps, the print was sanded smooth for colour which started with a metallic silver spray paint for the main body of the print.

For the intricate pattern of the inlay black was painted on and then rubbed away to give it a distressed look. The handle was painted in a variety of acrylic browns and then a gold was used to finish off the appropriate details.

If you’d like your own version of God of War’s take on Mjölnir, the files to make one are available for free over on Thingiverse.
