Cyberpunk 2077 Collector’s Edition to be available in South Africa for R4599

Recently announced at E3, Cyberpunk 2077 will have a Collector’s Edition, and you will be able to buy it from a local retailer here in South Africa.

Raru already has listings for the Collector’s Edition, on all three platforms (PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), with the price the same for each at R4 599.

While Cyberpunk 2077 is looking like a wholly unique game, the same cannot be said for this Collector’s Edition as it’s packing the usual fair we’ve come to expect.

As such, for your money, the big ticket item in the box is a sizeable statuette of the player character V as a male (since V can also be played as a female). This measures in at 25 centimetres tall and depicts V crushing an unfortunate bad guy under a bike. It’s very Akira-esque.

The medium-sized goodies include a metal keychain of the Quadra V-tech car shown off in much of the promotional material, an art book, a world compendium and an interesting box to put all of this in.

The smaller items are numerous. There’s a steelbook case, a set of metal pins, another small book, embroidered patches, postcards, a map and stickers.

Last and probably least is the digital content. You’ll be getting the game’s soundtrack, a digital art book, wallpapers and a sourcebook.

While we can’t speak to this product’s value for money, we can look at what premium South Africans will be paying for it. In the US this Collector’s Edition costs $249.99 which, at the time of writing, converts to R3 716.19. With Raru’s listing being R4 599, the difference is rather large at R882.81‬.

That being said, anyone who has imported large items from overseas knows how expensive it can be, making this price rather fair. Unless you have a trip to the US (or a similar country this is being sold in) already planned and a free suitcase, we find it difficult to see a way to get it at this price.

At this point we have to give the appropriate warnings about pre-ordering. Even if Cyberpunk 2077 itself is a phenomenal game, there’s no way to tell if this physical product is. If the Fallout 76 Power Armor debacle is good for anything, it’s as a warning.

We also have to give a fair warning about the retailer Raru itself. While we appreciate the fact that they’re bringing this item into the country, and seem to be the only ones doing so at the time of writing, we’ve found them to be wholly unreliable in the past. Hear about our terrible experience trying to buy a graphics card from them recently, and read some HelloPeter entries to see that our story is nothing new or unique.

If you’d still like to take the gamble you can see the Collector’s Edition, as well as the regular game priced at R999 for console and R729 for PC, on the Raru splash page.

You can also see a rather dramatic “unboxing” of the Collector’s Edition in an official video below:
