Some of the key topics being discussed during Sustainability Week

Early next week the 5th annual Sustainability Week 2019 will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre (ICC) in the City of Tshwane from the 24th to the 26th June.

The gathering will see Africa’s local government leaders and related stakeholders discuss sustainable city growth and dive into the various facets of sustainable service delivery and the green economy in on the continent.

According to organisers, there will be a number of topics up for discussion, with leaders on the continent holding the following seminars that we think are particularly noteworthy.

Sustainable Cities Africa Conference

This seminar will take place on the second day of the conference, where it will see regional leaders discuss critical topics which will introduce potential solutions and also provide a channel for actual deal making to take place.

Sustainable water resource seminar

Currently South Africa is facing a water crisis, and this seminar will see experts present their findings on climate change. They will also discuss related risks, such as droughts and floods, and look into the storage and supply infrastructure, as well as the risks and opportunities for water uses.

Youth and the green economy

In an effort to try to tackle youth unemployment, this seminar will look at the younger generation’s ability to create innovative and sustainable solutions that could be realised if the they are provided with an enabling environment which promotes experimentation, teaching and adapting.

Sustainable Infrastructure for Smart Cities seminar

This seminar will gather city planners who are able to recognise the importance of technological solutions, with the key to successful smart city implementation hinging upon the collaboration between public and private sectors.

Enabling a sustainable Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR)

Many efforts have been done to emphasise the importance of the 4IR of late, with it offering huge potential to transform and realign our economy and society. This seminar will see leaders discuss the realisation that 4IR could also exacerbate problems for people and the planet.
