Raspberry Pi 4 is now available for $35

The latest edition of the ever popular tiny maker board PC – the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B – has just been launched at $35 (~R499) with the following specs:

  • CPU: 1.5GHz quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A72 CPU
  • RAM: 1GB, 2GB or 4GB LPDDR4 SDRAM
  • Networking: Dual-band 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, Gigabit Ethernet
  • Ports: 2 X USB 3.0, 2 X USB 2.0, 2 X micro HDMI, 1 X USB Type C (power), 1 X barrel jack

As you may expect that $35 price tag is for the 1 GB option. The 2GB ($45) and 4GB ($55) variants will cost more.

Aside from a faster processor and the networking capabilities, we’re most interested in those two HDMI ports which are claimed to support 4K at 60 Hz together with the ability to hook two monitors up.

Aside from the board itself, there’s a lot of new accessories to go along with it. If you like the official Raspberry Pi cases and cabling, they are shown off in the blog post announcing this new version. We assume the third party products for it will be released soon.

For software a new incarnation of the Raspbian OS is being shipped alongside the new hardware. Check back to the official blog tomorrow where more details will be revealed about it.

While the low price of the Raspberry Pi has always been a big selling point for the product, it’s worth mentioning that the $35 starting price doesn’t include sales tax or, more importantly for those of us outside of the UK where the Pi comes from, import or shipping fees.

At the time of writing we don’t see any retailers offering the Raspberry Pi 4 in South Africa, but it should be available at some point given the fact that past boards were all officially imported into the country.
